After deciding to build a home on Vancouver Island, I began to research builders. Kris Bauchman and his company, Sagewood Homes came up as a potential builder. I did my due diligence, and everybody I spoke with had nothing but positive comments to say about Kris. I contacted Kris, and luckily the timing was right for him to build my dream home.
I have never built a home before, thus I am completely clueless about doing so. At the same time, I am somewhat of a “control freak,” however, I did not have time to micromanage the project anyway. Kris’ handling of these challenges in working with me was, to say the least, exceptional. My home was built while I remained in Alberta. Notwithstanding the distance, Kris communicated with me regularly and I had the utmost confidence in Kris and Sagewood to build a home of exceptional quality. Throughout the entire process, Kris was always available to answer any of my questions, with honest, knowledgeable, and patient responses. Kris had an innate ability to “hold my hand” where necessary, giving me great latitude in creating the home I envisioned, while at the same time using his expertise to guide me back to the path as to what was logical and practical in relation to the build.A further challenge is that we were building my home towards the end of the Pandemic. Notwithstanding the volatility of the supply chain and cost of building supplies, Kris finalized the build in accordance with his initial quote and precisely on time. As the house approached completion, Kris’ wife, Debra, provided me with guidance in relation to colour and material choices for the interior, which all came together for a stunningly beautiful home.
With Kris and his team at Sagewood Homes, I found a group of professionals who truly understand the difference between a house and a home. After living in it for over two years, each and every day I continue to enjoy my beautiful, perfect home, and I continue to appreciate the thoughtful details in its construction.
